symbols we are not.
EDIT: I've seen a lot of symbol hate going around lately. Plus since the symbols changed I figured it's time to update this journal
also my writing skills have vastly improved & articles weren't very editable back then.
deviantART: A community of artists and those devoted to art. Digital art, skin art, themes, wallpaper art, traditional art, photography, poetry / prose.
We are...

a diverse group of individuals brought together by a common interest: ART. We come from all corners and crevices of the world joining together in one common place forming a community, identifying ourselves and nothing more or less than what we are; artists.
We are not...

symbols. Each username followed by a symbol is no more or less than another. We are all individuals and people behind screens and usernames. Some of us with symbols, some of us with none. Strip away the symbols and we find deviantART: a community.

The does and don'ts of dealing with art theft.
So you're browsing deviations and you come across stolen art. It may even be your own. There are no links back to the original artist. Of course, this is going to make you feel angry, even more so if it is your own art. Now it is time to take action... but exactly what is the best course of action to take?
Your very first step is to find the original piece of art. There are many times you think something is stolen, but upon closer inspection, it isn't. Always compare the suspected stolen image to the original. If you cannot find the original image, contact the artist you think did the original drawing with your suspicion, and they can deal with it from there. If you absolutely cannot find the original image, check the suspected stolen image for incorrect watermarks. If you cannot find one, then you are unable to prove the image was stolen. At this point it is not longer you problem, and you should LET IT GO; unless in the future you are able to prove it belongs to someone else.
If you

How to Host a Contest
I love contests. As much as I like entering contests, I love hosting contests even more. Here's a guide to help you host your own contest. =]
Pick a theme for your contest. Your theme can be as vague as a general photography contest, or something specific such as a monochrome contest. Be creative and use your imagination as themes of a contest can be anything.
Although I'm a photographer, I personally like holding contests that allow all mediums (traditional art, digital art, literature, ect.) to enter because I find it more fun when a larger audience is allowed to participate.
What's a contest without prizes? While you don't need extravagant prizes to host a good contest, I think it's fair to say that the more prizes the merrier.
It's a good idea to get a few prizes before actually announcing the contest. I'm sure to a bunch of members on this site, the prizes are the most alluring part of a contest and announcing a contest without any pr

Okay, so after my long disappearance into the dark abyss of neverending projects and exams, I am back with more energy!!!
This time, I am going to challenge myself by redoing a few old works in different styles, for me to gauge my own improvement and versatility (or the lack of >.<).

I am sharing the plan here in this journal to keep my motivation up! So, please feel free to bug me when my to-do list doesn't get done!!!

Reworking - Round 1: the "Four Seasons" Series will be done in Digital!
1. Summer (Done)
2. Autumn
3. Winter
4. Spring

Why am I doing this? When I was browsing DA, I came across Hearts-Are-Cold's work,…, and I thought that it will be good to revisit old works and see how much I have improved or changed. The idea of doing the same thing in different styles is from… by moyan.

Okay, that is all for now. I will update this journal when I have other ideas, but for the moment I am staying away from my paints :( The next one might be a color pencil version of the "Four Seasons". Or maybe just pencil. I don't know.

  • Listening to: SPITZ - Escargot
  • Reading: my palm
  • Watching: the fan
  • Drinking: water

I'm a beginner--> I need to practice a lot
I'm a full time Engineering undergraduate :( --> very busy with school --> No time to practice --> I tend to disappear from DA during term time :(
When holiday comes --> Woohoo! --> I can paint all day long and camp on DA!

Current Residence: Singapore
Favourite genre of music: classical, pop, jazz
Operating System: Mac OS X
